That "essential, but extensive" scheduled Yahoo Mail! maintenance is apparently under way - two accounts (both of which received email alerts last week) stopped responding this evening. Even the webmail logins to those accounts are timing out. Let's hope they still work tomorrow after the "essential, but extensive" maintenance has been completed...

The accounts are back from maintenance - and seem to be working fine.

There are some menu changes - starting with Mail Options menu (but the POP/Forwarding choice is still there):

This is what I have I'm assuming this is what you meant by activate pop with yahoo asia.
Incoming Mail Server (POP3): pop.mail.yahoo.com

Use SSL, port: 995
Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): smtp.mail.yahoo.com

Use SSL, port: 465, use authentication
Account Name/Username: [email protected]
Email address: [email protected]
Password: Your Yahoo! Mail password

So I can receive email from my oldest yahoo address but I cannot send. All my other yahoo address are in shambles - .....

I'm going nuts!!

Under Yahoo/Asia Mail, after you've signed click on OPTIONS/MAIL, click on POP & FORWARDING, click on SET UP OR EDIT POP & FORWARDING and make sure you check the WEB & POP ACCESS button; this is for the NEW YAHOO MAIL, don't know about the CLASSIC YAHOO MAIL. There are several posts regarding that version.
It's bad luck to be superstitious!

Hello,

I have switched over to Yahoo Asia, and yet under Management there is still no submenu for POP settings, either in classic or the new view. What might I be doing wrong? Anyone?! Thanks in advance!

You're not doing anything wrong. There are some that will not work. I have four yahoo accounts and only three will work with this trick. The last email address I created will not work no matter which country I select. I suspect you'll find you're youngest addresses will not work.

Use SSL, port: 995
Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): smtp.mail.yahoo.com

Use SSL, port: 465, use authentication
Account Name/Username: [email protected]
Email address: [email protected]
Password: Your Yahoo! Mail password

You CANT send because you dont need to use port 995. It's enough you leave Outlook setting by default (port 25). Then click on the Outgoing Server tab. Make sure that My Outgoing Server (SMTP) Requires Authentication is checked. And, finally, make sure same settings as my incoming mail server is selected.
Done! :-)

Yahoo Asia trick with In/Out SSL works GREAT. Much faster. Got 1.7 Mbits/sec and many emails per sec.

Old Yahoo account, classic.
Vista Home Premium SP1 with latest updates
Win Live Mail (sh*t), will change
McAfee Virus (McAfee firewall off)
Vista Firewall
Wi-Fi Cafe

Thanks all

Thanks to all that posted, this ended up working great for me.

One question I have, I don't want to remove the emails from yahoo server totally I noticed that when I connected and did my first send and receive on Outlook it did pull all the emails from yahoo but it didn't just copy them it totally removed them from yahoo. The problem I have with this is my Blackberry Storm is configured to get my yahoo mail as well and outlook just pulled all the emails off my Blackberry. I would really like to keep the emails in both spots so when I travel if I need to refer to an old email it will still be on my yahoo account which is tied to my Blackberry.

Can anyone offer a suggested for this small problem.

Thank you in advance.

You did not say which version, but most are common. Check "Leave a copy of messages on the server" under Advanced Settings. Advanced Settings in Outlook 2003

Thanks Chris! I figured it was probably an easy fix, I was looking for that kind of box to check in yahoo options not Outlook. And I am using Outlook 2003.

This worked like a champ. Receiving all of my e-mail from my Yahoo! account on XP Pro SP3 using Outlook 2007. Excellent fix!! Sorry YPOPs!, but it appears that I don't need you anymore. Thanks for everything and good luck at working out your bugs.

I tried this on two yahoo accounts. The first doesn't work. I get the error message "The RETR command did not succeed. Error retrieving a message. Mail server pop.mail.yahoo.com responded: problem retrieving message."

The other account works. I've doubled checked and I have both set up exactly the same. Any suggestions as to why it works on one and not the other?

Waterskier, I doubt that you're still here - but....mine was doing this sporadically and I found my answer in another forum. This message means there is a malformed message. Go to the web interface, and try deleting the first unread message in your inbox. If that doesn't work, empty your spam folder.

That's what worked for me.
