Is this what you are using with your e-mail client?

Incoming Mail Server (POP3): pop.mail.yahoo.com
Use SSL, port: 995
Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Use SSL, port: 465, use authentication
Account Name/Username: username@yahoo.com
Email address: username@yahoo.com
Password: Your Yahoo! Mail password

I've now reconfigured several dozen Yahoo accounts for friends and neighbors using the Yahoo Asia workaround and have yet to encounter any problems at all - sending or receiving. Some were still using YPOPs (it stopped working for more and more of them as time went by), a few were using FREEPOPs, many had gone back to the webmail interface. Some of the accounts are very old; one was set up last month. There are subtle menu differences between older and newer accounts that might require changing between the Classic and New interfaces. Lots of permutations - if you can't find/access the POP3 configuration menu one way, try the other. Some use SSL (ports 465/995), most do not (ports 25/110) - it works either way.

Almost all of them use OE6, one is on Eudora, and three are on regular Outlook. All of the clients are now set to POP3 server "pop.mail.yahoo.com" and SMTP server "smtp.mail.yahoo.com".

It would seem that at least some of the problems people are having with the Asia workaround (besides finding it) are still the result of incorrect email client settings - the necessary details have already been provided (above and in several other threads). Some International/non-USA and Business accounts may well have other differences that prevent success. The newly updated YPOPs may be the solution in those cases!

BTW - someone already mentioned this, and I tested and confirmed that you can change your "Preferred Content" back to Yahoo USA without losing POP3/SMTP access once it has been configured via the Asia workaround (you do lose access to the POP3 configuration menu).

Nothing worked for me!
I keep getting this message

Unable to send or receive messages for the Yahoo () account. An incorrect password was entered. The next time you send or receive messages, you'll be asked to enter your user name and password for this account.

Server Error: 0x800CCC90
Server Response: -ERR [SYS/PERM] pop not allowed for user.
Server: 'pop.mail.yahoo.com'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC92
Protocol: POP3
Port: 995
Secure(SSL): Yes

The password is correct by the way & everything is configured as stated in previous messages in this forum.

I can't even get Ypops to work under Windows Live Mail.

Hi everyone, I just checked in here to see how Anuj was doing, and I found this gem discussed here! What a nice trick to enable direct POP3 to Yahoo and not need any program to download Yahoo email into the email client! :-)

I find it interesting that if you try enabling from the U.S. region, it says that the service is not for sale. This is interesting, and leads me to believe Yahoo might actually make this a free service once again in the near future, but of course that's pure speculation, and I won't hold my breath waiting (thankfully due to this trick, I don't have to). I am only puzzled they aren't selling it and aren't making it available for free either, yet they allow this trick to work. Are they trying to milk the existing paying Plus customers before making it free or what? Quite perplexing.

Anyway, I'm happy to set my region to Asia and glad the site is still in english and I am happily using direct POP3 and SMTP with the Yahoo server.

Nice find!

For Thunderbird users. Don't modify your profile(s) within ACCOUNT SETTINGS, rather delete and then re-enter. That's what gave me fits for a while but all is working fine now.

Chris, you may be on to the problem some people are having - I modified my earlier instructions to explicitly mention the POP3 radio button that has to be selected (just as shown in your screen grab)! It does not default to enabled.

Yahoo Phillippines is apparently like Yahoo Asia in allowing POP3 access. I also looked at Yahoo Australia but got into some strange "Yahoo7" "Mail7" stuff that didn't make much sense. And there is that Yahoo UK/Ireland heading that pops up while in the POP3 settings menu - but if you actually select Yahoo UK you can't get to the POP3 settings menu. It's all one underlying system - the regional differences are really quirky and make things harder than they have to be.

I have two free yahoo accounts, ending with @rocketmail.com, on servers f595 and f596. I created those two last June. No matter which region i switch, I cannot get the pop access and forwarding option. Tried Asia, Philippines, UK&Ireland, Australia, Canada, as well as US, in both Classic and new interface. Guess accounts on those servers have more restrictions. BTW, I was successful with other accounts.
Anyone has the same problem or it's just me?

Hey Don, great to see you around here, too! 8)

The only way I can get the "not for sale" message is on those accounts I've switched to Asia, then switched back to US & then clicked on "Edit POP & Forward settings" (or something like that). If I just go to the POP & Forward option on an unswitched account, it offers to sell me Mail Plus. When I follow that, it's serious about selling it to me, at least for the several screens I progressed through before I bailed out of the purchase. The one account that I wish I could check is the one that got the message last Friday night that Yahoo is doing extensive maintenance this coming Friday evening (03/13) &, if my account is unavailable, it should be back by midday Saturday. Unfortunately, it was that very message that made me first try switching to Asia because I wanted to keep a copy! That's the only one of my four accounts that's gotten such a message - so far anyway. Don, did you by chance receive the same message & try setting up POP & Forward before you switched your account?

If anyone else happened to get that "extensive scheduled maintenance" message & hasn't switched to Asia yet, I'd be curious what they get if they just follow the trail from the POP & Forward option while still set to US. I half suspect they may get to a Mail Plus "not for sale" page also & that might be a real indication that they're about to restore free POP access in the US. It seems really short-sighted if they don't since Google, Microsoft & AOL all now offer it for free!

Perhaps Yahoo is slowly coming around the globe with this? Which direction, though; East or West?

I can not get it to work for the life of me!
First off i have looked everywhere for area in yahoo mail where it allows you to select yahoo web and pop access. Using Asia region the options tab takes me to the beta look alike page with nowhere that shows it, neither under U.S. or Phillipines will i see that option after going into options.
Without doing that in there i have tried using it with default settings in thebat i get
!3/10/2009, 20:08:23: FETCH - Server reports error. The response is: -ERR [SYS/PERM] pop not allowed for user.
With ssl settings using the different ports it just will say connection failed.
I even tried using Outlook 2k7 but every damn time i try to have it fetch mail it keeps popping up username password enter box even though they are right( I have already tried suggestions listed in google ie:registry and protections fixes)
Someone help me get this going i am driving myself nuts.

Type yahoo.com in address bar and hit enter
If you don't get Sign In option click on My Yahoo and sign in
After you sign in click on your user name
When your Profile pops up click on EDIT your personal information
Change from Yahoo US to Yahoo Asia, click on save/finished and sign out
Sign back in to Yahoo, click on Mail which should bring it up in Yahoo Asia
Click on Options/Mail Options and in the left pane click on Pop/Forwarding
After it opens be sure to check the POP button, save/finished and sign out of everything Yahoo.
Use the settings shown in Yahoo Asia/Mail/Pop and Forwarding/View Settings for your e-mail client.

It works fine for me but I just ran through it again to make sure it still works.
