I still not getting in. I am using Outlook Express and I guess I am just stupid. I switched my yahoo to yahoo.asia in yahoo.com, I have my account settings at
server: plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com
outgoing server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com
My ports are set up at 25 & 110
and I am still getting errors like:
Unable to logon to the server using Secure Password Authentication. Account: 'Jeff's Yahoo', Server: 'pop.mail.yahoo.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR popgate unknown command', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18

HELP a poor dumb person someone??

I'm on Yahoo Asia. These settings work for me.

server: pop.mail.yahoo.com, port 995, secure connection SSL

outgoing: smtp.mail.yahoo.com, port 465, secure connection SSL
It's bad luck to be superstitious!

Did you try my settings? I should have mentioned I use Thunderbird and the new style Yahoo Mail. Make sure you use your full user name "username"@yahoo.com.

For those who the POP / Forwading option is not available, log into you account as normal and then use this link:

http://popfwd.mail.yahoo.com/pf/PopFwd? ... 1238813623

It should take you to the settings page for the POP account - it worked for me - can't promise anything.

If you're trying to go through Yahoo! Asia, your server should not be plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com. You shouldn't be using the plus server unless you're paying for the plus service. And if you are using the plus service, you have no need for YPOPs. Remove the plus from your server settings.

Awesome instructions. works great. now downloading 13000 mails :)

gfmpop wrote:Another confirmation that changing the preferred content to "Yahoo Asia" allows direct POP3 access without any additional intermediary (YPOPS, FreePOPs).

I just changed eight accounts (new and old), and the process was slightly different in each (some were classic interface, some were new interface, one had a yahoo home page). But the basic steps for all:

Sign in at the main (not mail) Yahoo page (http://www.yahoo.com)
On the top right, where it says "Hi <yourname>", click on <yourname>
Enter the requested password
Edit "Member Information" (first choice)
Select "Preferred Content", and change it to "Yahoo Asia"
Click Finished and Accept the Terms
Select Finished again
Sign Out

When you sign back in to Yahoo Mail (http://mail.yahoo.com), you will now see the "Yahoo Asia" logo
Select Options (near the top right)
You will now have a "POP3 Access and Forwarding" choice under Management (there is a radio button that must be selected)

Make sure you change your email client back to pop.mail.yahoo.com & smtp.mail.yahoo.com!

For email purposes, nothing else seems to have changed, and it's all still in English (or whatever language you had it set for). If you use Yahoo as your home page, there may be further differences (like the headlines). You can change back to Yahoo USA after the changes without losing POP3/SMTP access but you do lose the ability to get into the POP3 radio button menu.

One housekeeping point: Any mail previously marked as "read" and stored on the Yahoo server will be downloaded again (since your email client has never accessed it before via POP3). It will, however, respect the "leave on server" setting - and things should work correctly going forward.

Hope this helps!

I did not check the "leave a copy of messages on the server". All messages downloaded to
my outlook but is the only way to see them back on Yahoo! Server is changing back to
Yahoo!USA and make sure the above check is on and let it download again ? I still want to
see old messages on Yahoo! Server. Thanks.

I don't know where most of you are located, but I think one of the problems people are having with the SMTP server is that most ISP's won't let you use any SMTP server but their own.

for example, for mine to work, I have to use smtp.west.cox.net

however, I cannot get the incoming mail server to work.

I've tried both SSL and non SSL
both plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com AND pop.mail.yahoo.com

the error message I'm getting is log onto incoming mail server (pop3) unable to connect to incoming mail server (pop3) please make sure you typed the correct user name and password in the internet email settings (pop3) wizard dialog box.

I have changed the ID to both [email protected] AND name - but still no joy.

any suggestion?
