If you have installed it by default, the path of the log file is
c:\program files\ypops\ypops.log

Request
Support for adding YPops as a Service

I Created a Service for Ypops in windows Vista Business SP1, as Adding Ypops in the start-up folder yielded crashes
sc create YPops binpath= "c:\Program Files\YPOPs\ypops.exe" DisplayName= "YPops POP3 SMTP Server" type= own start= auto

However, Event Viewer shows 2 events
Event ID : 7009: A timeout was reached (30000 milliseconds) while waiting for the YPops POP3 SMTP Server service to connect.
Event ID : 7000: The YPops POP3 SMTP Server service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

Haven't had problems until today. I received an unspecified error (a string like this "--->"). Browsed this thread and found some turnarounds that worked for me (I've been working for a couple of hours with no problems): I switched form Classic to New Yahoo mail, and started receiving mail as usual but couldn't send, so I checked the "Save email in Yahoo's Sent Mail Folder", and everything went back to normal. I haven't try unchecking this option again, but don't want to press my luck for now. As i told, the turnarounds i successfully tried was found in this thread. I just want to let you know.

Thanks to everyone.

Manuel.

I have had no problems receiving email, but I also got the error message: 554 mailbox unrecognized. However, if I check the box "save email in yahoo's sent items folder", I am able to send email from my yahoo account via outlook 2002 and outlook express 6.

WOOO!! I think we have a winner! I have two Yahoo mail accounts, one has been changed over to the mc servers and the other is still on the f servers. I'm using YPOPs v0951 and had the same issues as everyone else. I was unable to send or receive main on the account moved over to the mc servers. If there was mail to retrieve it would just say there were no messages, and when I tried to send I got the error message. Pretty much the same story.

So I switched over to the new interface on this one account so I could at least receive mail. Decided to read thru this thread hoping for a miracle, and the above trick seems to work, even with version 0951. I checked the box as described above, reloaded YPOPs and tried sending mail with Thunderbird from the account that got moved and is now using the new interface.

At first it didn't work, giving me an "unable to access mailbox" error. Well at least that's new. So I logged into Yahoo Mail in Firefox and tried sending the message again thru Thunderbird. And it worked! It went out without error and was received by the recepient (my other Yahoo account currently on the old servers).

So then I logged out of Yahoo completely and sent another test mail, and it went thru just fine as well.

This seems to be the magic workaround, at least for now. I suggest everyone try it and see if it works for them. If it doesn't work right off the bat try what I did, logging into that Yahoo account in your browser first.

I haven't tried this using the classic interface on the mc servers, but as long as it works I really don't care which interface I have to use.

Update: After restarting my system, I was no longer able to send through yahoo (554 mailbox unrecognized). However, I toggled the option to "save email in yahoo's sent folder" (toggle off > close ypops > open ypops > toggle on). Now, sending is working again. Then I toggled the option back off, and send is still working. I assume I'll probably have to do this every time I restart my system. Does anyone else get the same strange behavior?

I tried your trick and was able to get things to work using the classic interface, but I had to log in to Yahoo Mail in my browser first. I haven't tried using the updated Classic interface yet, or rebooted. I'll update when I have more to report.

EDIT#1: ok, I found that the "save email in yahoo's sent folder" checkbox doesn't seem to have any effect for me using the new interface. What works for me is logging into and out of Yahoo Mail in my browser after YPOPs is started (either on a full system startup or by simply shutting it down and starting it again), and then it works perfectly until YPOPs is restarted.

Dunno why this is, perhaps it's a cookie thing of some sort. Also, I do not have the "Keep me signed in" box checked on the Yahoo logout page, so when I log out, I really log out. Gonna try the new classic interface, see what happens.

EDIT#2: this does NOT work with the classic interface. If anything, the classic interface just f*cks it all up. If I log in with the new interface already active, then I can switch to classic and everything works fine until you either restart YPOPs or log into Yahoo thru the browser. Either will cause things not to function. Even if you switch to the new interface while logged in it won't work. You need to switch to the new interface, log out completely, log back in to the new interface, and then shutdown and restart YPOPs to get it working again.

Bottom line, stay away from the classic interface completely.

It's not a perfect solution, having to log into Yahoo in my browser every time my computer starts up, but it's better than not being able to send mail at all.

Hopefully this little workaround will lead to a more permanent solution in the next version of YPOPs.

EDIT#2.5: I've tested this a number of different ways now, and I've noticed that sometimes even after you log in and out thru the browser, the first email you try and send might fail. I simply wait a moment, click send again, and it goes thru. I will have to do a long-term test to see if that first browser login is good for the entire day, or if you need to periodically login every few hours.

I'm sorry it doesn't work for you. I have no idea why it works for me, so I have no idea why it would or wouldn't work for others. But my account is on the same servers as yours.

As I noted above, sometimes trying to send will fail, but if I wait a moment and retry it will usually go thru the second time. I've had a few occasions where I had to retry 4 or 5 times, but it did eventually go thru. I have the "Save email in Yahoo's Sent Items Folder" checked just so I can make sure it actually did go thru and not just simply going thru the motions and erroring out without any notification.

Postby mtharan on April 22nd, 2008, 6:20 pm

Dear Chi.Anuj,

Of late I am not finding the YPOP log fine in my YPOP folder. any reason. I checked with my anti-virus for any reson that file is delieted or quarantined. But no such report. But I receive mail and send mail. But the complaint from the receiver is " it is brokern and in many places it come with =20" in the messages they received. Kindly take a note of it. Of course SMTP also works. my address on yahoo service is "http://us.mg2.mail.yahoo.com/dc/launch?.rand=3hh21n4ndgv2d" This is for your information.

with wishes and look for the final verson soon with much of your effort and HIS grace.

Greetings,

I've been happily using YPOPs! for what seems like forever. Recently, it appears to go through the motions but doesn't download anything. The last message that I've received, though, was the 16th of April. The new messages in my Yahoo! inbox aren't being downloaded and YPOPs! doesn't indicate any failure. The thing that's different is that I use a couple of different Yahoo! accounts with YPOPs!. The English/USA accounts appear to be fine, sending and receiving. My primary Yahoo! account, though, is Yahoo! Mexico. The Spanish-language account is the one that's failing to download. Again, it had been working without fail until after the 16th of April.

The log files show the following information, which I hope will be useful to someone.
