Yahoo problem may be at root ... how to fix???

Postby Mitchell on December 19th, 2008, 1:18 am

I've had this yahoo account for 9 years now, kinda scary that since last night it isn't working in a very funny and disturbing way: I can't even log on properly using the main web interface! It gives me the error:

"Invalid ID or password.
Please try again using your full Yahoo! ID, and type the text you see in the picture below."

I have to retype un+pw and then type in the letter+number combination below. That's the only way I'm getting in. So I'm guessing that's why I'm not getting my mail anymore via YahooPOPs! and PopPeeper.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem, or where to go? I never get any results from dealing with Yahoo myself.

Hopefully someone here knows the solution!

Thanks.

Hey, thanks for the absolutely nil response guys <sigh> <wry grin> ...

Yahoo Canada now not working with YahooPOPs! Yahoo US seems to be okay. So having to discard the new acct. The US one had a bit of trouble but started working again once I logged in manually to webmail site so that _seems_ to have fixed this problem. At least for now. The YCda one just doesn't work anymore. Good thing 9 yr-old acct now does.

Due to almost complete slowdown of YP, does anyone know of any other freeware that does what YP does? I get the feeling that author has almost lost complete interest in this app. Or will anyone take over the mantle? I rely on this process now too much. I'd hate to lose the freeware that makes my life so much easier. It's been such a godsend all these years since I discovered it. I use YahooPOPs! in conjunction with PopPeeper. But PP still going strong so far.

Cheers. <g>

Well, I'm very happy to say that I am now able to toss TPOPs! into the trash! With the absolute disregard the folks that created this now have for everyone and not being able to receive/send mail properly in last couple years and nil in last several months, I'm very happy to report that I found FreePOPs! and that I'm receiving my mail once again in my Outlook program.

I haven't yet been able to send mail but since its merely carrier server information that is the problem and that works with my Outlook Express when sending/receiving that mail in that client, I believe that a wipe/reinstall of my OS will fix that problem. Also, I continue to be able to send/receive in POPPeeper, my webmail checker, so I'm still WAY ahead of where I've been in last 2 years since the creators/developers stopped caring about YPs! here.

So, all in all, since FreePOPs! is also open source, that bodes well for a much healthier future because if someone gets tired there, as they did here, well, there's the potential of many, many more helping hands to come in a fill the breach.

So then, so-long YahooPOPs! and all the aggravation of the last couple of years! Mail is coming in again, which is the important part since I belong to quite a few imoprtant (for me) yahoo groups.

Cheers and I'll say thanks for the great help in the distant past when fixes were fairly regular so we didn't suffer too long breaks in proper mail function, but not for the recent past. Wish everyone better luck re YPs! :!:

Freepops doesn't send, only receives, and doesn't work with Win7

Well, the good news is that there's a lot less hassle with it. And since I've moved over to Thunderbird, though I've kept FreePOPs, haven't had any more problems. After many years of using YahooPOPs! with the problems that kept happening and the delays in the updates, have had trouble-free sending/receiving to both my yahoo and hotmail accounts.

YPOPs! was great while it lasted but hopefully one day it goes open source so it works reliably on a consistent basis.

Cheers. :oD
