Some emails will not download

Postby wildcard on October 11th, 2008, 9:45 am

I am having an odd problem where some emails will not download. When YPops attempts to download these messages, I get the error message: -ERR message 30 can not be downloaded. Note that 30 is the message number, so the number changes every time I hit this problem (I have to move the message out of my inbox so I can continue to download emails).

I am not sure what could be causing it. I suspect it is something in the ads that Yahoo puts at the bottom of all the messages, one of them is causing YPops to not retrieve message with that ad. Does anyone have any advise on how to get around this problem so I can retrieve these messages?

I have the same problem for two days now.

I installed version 0.9.6 alpha 1, changed from classic to new yahoo mail.

I'm using OE6

attached my last log file

I can't find the logic of which emails are downloaded and which are not.

I'll appreciate any help

Thanks

I am getting the same thing for the past day.........

Task 'Email - Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC90) : 'Your incoming (POP3) e-mail server has reported an internal error. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP). The server responded: -ERR message 3 could not be downloaded'

However I have had no problems until I tried thismorning, and have not changed a single thing, double checked my settings in email client and Ypops, downloaded latest version of YPops, updated email client, ensured that I had set to new version within yahoo email......

Something must have been changed in Yahoo when they did the new profile system I guess.

Mine will download a couple of messages but gets stuck half way and then gives the above error.

My e-mail client is PocoMail, this happens with both Yahoo! Mail and Yahoo! Mail Classic.

I get several messages a day. As example with my last check there was 40 messages on Yahoo, my client downloaded and deleted 40 messages. The problem is 4 of those messages never really got downloaded.

What happens in Yahoo is those four messages are deleted and show up in the trash, they were never downloaded by YPOPs!. I can place that message back in the Yahoo Inbox try to download again with same results. There is something in these messages that is causing the problem. I have moved all of these messages to a separate folder in Yahoo. I now have 87 messages that YPOPs! fails to download. The log that follows is from a download attempt of one of those messages.

Note: in the log below and also for the 87 saved messages in Yahoo that "Content-Type = text/plain; charset=utf-8" appears to be common factor to the "HTTP GET failed. CURL error: Transferred a partial file (18)"; however, in my ypops.log there of plenty of messages with "Content-Type = text/plain; charset=utf-8" that successfully downloaded.

I have saved both the Username.GetMessageRawHeader_Inbox.html and Username.messageheader.html files if needed. I can also reproduce this problem by using any of those saved messages.

The good thing about this is that the messages are being deleted before being marked as read, so find the failed messages in the trash is easy.

I am seeing the same issue. When using 'new' vs classic the ones that fail to download stay marked as unread so easy to see the failures. I can provide additional info if the original appender cannot.

The thing is that yahoo recently updated stuff and added "profiles", and my YPoPs has not been able to download properly since then.

Im still certain that it is actually a problem with something that yahoo has done, not YPoPs or our mail clients etc.........

Getting that upset about the level of support here? Last I checked, YPOPS! is free, so in that regard if you are too unhappy you could ask for your money back... or you could fork over some money to yahoo and get POP3 support from them, instead of whining that the people who are doing this in their free time arent helping you circumvent Yahoo!'s system in order to save you a nickle... o'kayI'mdone....

Same problem here :)

What a fuckwit you are...........

Yeah its FREE,
Yeah it "circumvents" yahoo's system (nice ebay words there)

The hard part to chew is that there has been NO reply's from a DELEVOPER OF YPOPS (on ANY HELP THREAD).

I am a member of several other "free" software forums, and a "developer" or other person of authority usually reply within an hour, sometimes at most 24hrs.

When there is NO REPLY's, it is like a ghost town, nobody who is asking a question can even get an acknowledgement which could even say soemthing like:
"Hi, We FREE software developers of this program are aware of your problem, and we will be able to look at it within the next (XYZ) timeframe"

They dont need to state that it will be done in the next .0005 nano seconds but SOMETHING would at least let the users know that someone is aware of a problem in something THEY have developed, be it for their personal use, or for others to use for FREE.

There are many methods of marketing programs which range from totally FREE, shareware, trialware, right up to "paid for" programs.

Did I mention that SOME FORM OF ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF THE PROBLEM WOULD AT LEAST GIVE US A TASTE THAT SOME LIFE EXISTS FOR THE PROGRAM...........

Also, when programs are FREE, some USERS, (including myself) have actually contributed financially in the form of a DONATION to the DEVELOPERS, but NOBODY IN THEIR RIGHT MIND would choose to CONTRIBUTE IF THERE APPEARS TO BE NO LIGHTS ON..............

I was looking around online and found another post from a software developer guy, and he said that Yahoo is cracking down on a programs like YPOPS. I too was getting a random error saying my yahoo account could not send or receive messages (through Windows live mail). It was working fine one day but the error randomly came up and I didn't think I changed anything.

Some messages will download, but some will not.

*sigh*

Congratulations. You donated. Was the amount of your check more or less than the upgrade fee to Yahoo! Plus? I'll bet you flamed Napster's forums the day your "free" music went away.

As to why the program is not working as intended, its simple. Yahoo doesn't want it to. Want to know why? Because it is stealing from them. You want to download your Yahoo! mail, and they want you to pay for it.

Here is one for you...

cir·cum·vent (sûr'kəm-věnt') Pronunciation Key
tr.v. cir·cum·vent·ed, cir·cum·vent·ing, cir·cum·vents

To surround (an enemy, for example); enclose or entrap.
To go around; bypass: circumvented the city.

Its not ebay... its ENGLISH

Webster still can't tell me what a "fuckwit" is.... maybe I will try the aforementioned auction site. (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=aforementioned)

I would love for Ypops! to work, but I am not going to scream that it doesn't. When yahoo wants to kill this program they will... by giving us free pop access so we will stop hacking at them...

for what its worth, I'm getting the same problem. Emails are just not downloading at all, and I know all settings are ok.

On the "lack of feedback and support" argument, I will say as a freeware designer myself, I always try and make sure I reply to my community, even if its just to say "hang on guys, we're workin on it!"

And something no one has asked yet - why in gods name does Yahoo! charge for POP3 access anyway? it *USED* to be free, and all other email services provide it either for free, or not at all (usually the former). It just drives customers away. In fact the very reason I am currently trying to download my emails is so I can shut down my anchient yahoo email account, and move over to Gmail. I dont see why I should have to pay Yahoo to let me download and save information which already belongs to me. And fuck loosing it all. Theres literally a decades worth of emails in there! 3574 messages to be exact, and thats with the spam filtered out lol! Anyway yeh, Yahoo went downhill years ago imho. Cant wait to get these messages downloaded and ditch their shambles of a service once and for all.

Hi, I have been having the same problem for over 2 weeks now and I agree it would be nice to hear from someone letting us know that they are atleast aware of the problem but I am starting to wonder if their silence means that they have no way of resolving the issue
