Outlook 2003

Postby jshaned on August 26th, 2004, 6:32 pm

Does anyone know how to configure with Outlook 2003 and Windows XP? It says that I cannot loggon to the outgoing mail server (SMTP). Verify authentication and SSL options under more settings. Did this, and still not working. Any help?

Did you already try following one of the documents instructions in the Configuring Mail Clients (under Documentation)? I think Outlook XP docs would be the closest for setup instructions.

Hello! Sorry to hear you had some difficulties with YP0.6 & Outlook 2003.

I just download this software and it works fine with outlook 2003. I will share my experience with you so hopefully, you can enjoy yahoopop 0.6(YP0.6). Please note that everything is in order of how I went about configuring/setting it up...

-downloaded YP0.6 & installed YP0.6
-run YP0.6 (from start, programs, and whatever you named it in your start menu group)
-right click the system tray icon, select "configure."

***settings reflected***
EMAIL PREF:Rec Email: 'Folders' - only check first option (...from inbox folder); 'Download Email Categ' - select download all emails

EMAIL PREF:Download Folders - I didn't download any additional folders; if you have problems after duplicating all of these instructions except this one, you may just want to transfer the contents of your important folders into the inbox and leave this blank as I did!).

EMAIL PREF: Sending Email - make sure the save sent items is unchecked (DON'T PANIC. YOUR OUTLOOK SETTINGS WILL TRUMP THIS YP SETTING!)

ADVANCED PREF: Security - select "Plain text"; set cookie t/o 24000.

ADVANCED PREF: Proxies - I don't use a proxy server, so all this info must be unchecked!

ADVANCED PREF: Network - for 'Bind on IP address' use the one that ends in "XXX.0.0.1"; make sure the port is 110. CHECK "Enable SMTP" and set the port to 25.

ADVANCED PREF: Act Log - only select 'basic log;' also check limit the size to 50kB. I left "Create an activity log(Filename yahoopops....) unchecked.

MISCELLANEOUS: The drop down arrow box should be set to the first option "Mozilla 4.0; IE6; windows...) *** Make sure your Internet Explorer is atleast version 6.0 to use this setting***; only CHECK "enable UIDL support".

Click OK to exit config window. RESTART YP0.6 (use systray icon to exit; restart from Start menu).

Now, the fun begins....

WHILE YP0.6 IS RUNNING, Open Outlook 2003.

-Select Tools -> Email accounts from the main menu
-Select Add a new email account and click on Next
-Select POP3 as the Server Type. Click Next
-Put in your username (name you want people to see when they receive mail from you) and FULL Yahoo! email address under 'User Information'.

-Enter your Yahoo! Login id and password under 'Logon Information' ***DO NOT PUT IN "@yahoo.com" behind your Yahoo ID here!
-Type $localhost$ without the $'s as your Incoming mail server and SMTP server.

-Click on the More Settings button and select the Advanced tab
-Increase the Server Timeout to 'Long' (10 minutes)
-Select the General tab and replace "localhost" with your FULL Yahoo Email Address (YES, THIS TIME WITH THE "@yahoo.com").
-Click the Connection tab.
-I'm on cable access, so I selected "connect through my LAN"
-Select the Outgoing Server tab
-Enable "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication".
-Select "Log on using" and enter your FULL Yahoo email address (YES, THIS TIME WITH THE "@yahoo.com") as the username and your Yahoo Mail password as the password.

-Click Ok to close the More Settings dialog.
-Click Next and then Finish.

Remember the Sent items part I talked about a while back? From Outlook 2003, select Tools, Options.
Under Preferences, select email options. You should see a check box that reads "Save copies of messages in Sent items folder." CHECK THIS IF YOU WANT THAT FROM BEFORE -- REMEMBER I SAID OUTLOOK 2003 WILL TRUMP YP0.6!

One last thing (I think); if you have another pop account setup in outlook 2003, when you compose a new message, make sure you take note of the "accounts" button (to the right of send) that allows you to select from which email address you're sending the message from.
Best of luck. Hope this was of some use. God Bless you and anyone else who reads this. Jesus is Savior and Lord of my life!

hi......i just follow all the instruction u gave, and i have a little problem during the "test account setting", somehow it stuck on the "find incoming mail sever" and there is a pop up window that show, like this:

Enter Network Password

Please type your user name and password
server:localhost
User name: (my username)@yahoo.com
Password: (my password)

[] Save this password in your password list

ok cancel

when i click the ok it keep showing up and can't finish the "test account setting"

btw i'm using Mcafee internet security, and i changed the port in Mcafee spam killer to 120, because i put 110 in the ypop setting. Is it ok?

thanks a lot....... :D :D :D :D

My best quick advice is: In Outlook 2003, select tools->email options->change account settings...select the yahoo account! Triple check that you entered your yahoo email address properly in any fields that required that info; also, triple check that your password is typed in correctly (CASE SENSITIVE)! Quadruple check that you followed my previous post to the letter concerning putting in your yahoo ID versus your FULL yahoo email address ([email protected]).

Third, after you have done the above, try restarting both YP0.6 and Outlook 2003!

My last quick thing to check is in YP0.6, under configure - advanced pref - network, triple check that the SMTP box is checked and that port 25 is entered.

Concerning your McAfee software, to be perfectly honest, I don't use it so I can't say for sure; you may notice McAfee Spam Killer "not working" as it did when you had it configured to 110. If this is the case, switch it back, leave YP0.6 as 110 and see if they conflict. I haven't checked this websites FAQ, so search YP0.6 and McAfee software. If nothing shows, try googling (if you already haven't). I don't want to give you advice for something I have little to no experience with!

Hope you found my post(s) helpful. Good luck! My God bless you and may His face shine upon you to give you peace.

I have the problem same as you... about "loggon to the outgoing mail server (SMTP)" and I solve it with change number of SMTP port(outgoing port) to other number. its happen because I use AntiVirus program in my pc.

before you follow the methods below, pls set everything that YahooPOPs said first.

For YahooPOPs
change SMTP port number by go to YahooPOPs! => Configuer ,then go to Advanced Preferences => Network ,then enable SMTP and change SMTP port to other number(e.g. I changed to 26).

and for Outlook 2003
go to the "E-mail Account" part => localhost (the part that you set YahooPops) Then click "More Setting ..." => Advanced => change Outgoing server (SMTP) number. (I changed to 26... same as YahooPops setting)

=>close YahooPOPs and Outlook2003 then open it again.
** If it still not work, it may happen by another problem.
