Did you do this in your email program or in YPOPs? Because I'm using Thunderbird and the only place I see UTF-8 is in the encoding section, and I don't use it, it's set to Western (ISO-8859-1). And I see nothing in the YPOPs configuration or .ini file as an option either.

I was looking around for this feature in Thunderbird
In windows ther's a similar setting in the Windows Registry (XP & Vista) whihc *may* transalate too
(Internet Explorer[Tool->Internet Options, scroll down to International section])

....that Outlook prior to v2007\v12 I suspect uses instead....

I dunno, now it's getting weird. I shut down YPOPs and restarted it, and found that I was able to send mail even though I didn't log back into Yahoo. It errors out a few times but eventually goes through.

And I checked my Firefox settings and it's not set to UTF-8 either, so no clue there.

I'm wondering if it's some kind of timing issue. It makes no sense that I click send once, and it errors. Then again and it errors. Then a third time and it goes thru. What changed in the 6-7 seconds between the 1st try and 3rd try?

No idea

It' sworking for consistently with me, but then i'm not using Thunderbird currently (I use both Outlook/windows & Thunderbird/Ubuntu (w/out Ypops))
Not time currently to test different versions nor differnt settings, but

(a) I think you have hit the nail on the head with UTF-8 (Not the message being encoded that way)
(b) I suspect it's 'client' & not 'server' that needs changing even though Yahoo Mail sever changes seem to have instigated this

The posted workaround doesn't work for me. It doesn't seem to matter whether or not I'm logged into to yahoo mail. What I did just try was sending multiple times without changing anything. On the third attempt it worked. I restarted ypops and again on the first 2 attempts it didn't work, but on the third it did. Once I get send working, it seems to stay that way until I restart windows or ypops. I've been using the 0.9.6 alpha version, but the behavior was similar in 0.9.5.1.

I have a similar log file to aviaggio1:

So the major difference I also see is with the utf-8 encoding.

In IE7 Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > "Use UTF-8 for mailto links" has always been unchecked.

In Outlook 2002, I can change the encoding under Tools > options > mail format > international options... The default settings are:
Auto-Select encoding for outgoing messages
Western European (ISO) as the preferred encoding method
Changing these settings doesn't seem to help, nor does changing the encoding settings in IE7 (View > Encoding > ) - press the alt key to show the menus in IE7.

This thread is about the MC & MG Serves, and doesn't affect the F severs, eg us.fxxx.mail.yahoo.com, as specified in your log file

OK. Maybe it was using the F server because I installed 0.9.6 alpha? Here is the link when I log into yahoo mail, so I assume I'm using the mg server:
http://us.mg2.mail.yahoo.com/dc/launch?freeacct=1

I uninstalled the alpha version, and reinstalled 0.9.5.1, and here is the corresponding log file. The behavior is the same as before (failed twice, then it worked the 3rd time without changing anything in between):

Yous issue seems to be the same that has been described in the threads, starts & stops upon restarting client &\or YPops!
Again...more evidence in whether the email is using UTF-8 as a mailto: header\protocol

[Incidently the MG server (all-new-mail, is probabaly a wrapper for F server as they are usually revealed in the logs)
Can't see the log header for each pass so i can't comment fully ]

Yeah, he's seeing the exact same behavior I am. It fails the first 2x then goes thru the 3rd. Both failures show UTF-8 in the log while the success does not.

I am wondering if the use of UTF-8 is by YPOPs itself, and not controlled by the email client. If so, there isn't anything we can do about it till a patch is made to YPOPs giving us the ability to turn off UTF-8 use.

THis WORKS FOR IE7/Outlook/YPOPS Combo
Ok this worked for me. Thanks Stev_Velvet for pointing me in the right direction. Here's what I did:
1. Right Click on the IE7 icon and slect properties.
2. Click on the Advanced tab.
3. Under International* uncheck both "Send UTF-8 URLs" and "Use UTF-8 for mailto links".
4. Closed all applications (Outlook 2003, YPOPs and IE7).
5. Open Ypops.
6. Open Outlook.
7. Rejoice and do the macarena while 3 days of e-mails download to your Outlook.

OK, maybe not the macarena but you know....

Can you alse send mail now? That's great that this worked for you. For me, the settings made no difference (both checked or both unchecked). The text encoding options in Outlook didn't make a difference for me either. But I have not had any problems receiving, just sending. I'm using IE7/Outlook 2002/YPOPS 0.9.5.1.
