YPOPs v0.9.5.1 (For Ubuntu; See: http://www.geocities.com/t_skariah/ypops/)
Thunderbird 2.0.0.0 (20070326)
I recently discovered YPOPs was serving up duplicate emails. I researched this issue throughout these forums and got no joy. I played around with it and found that the issue is that something is going wrong with YPOPs and it's ability to track emails during a session across multiple mail transfers. The session timeout (or cookie timeout value as it used to be called) was set to 12000 seconds. This means that YPOPS would leave the HTTP connection open for a long time so my mail client could hit up Yahoo for new mail without having to re-log in for each mail transfer.
I set the session timeout value to zero and it's working perfectly now. However, this means that every time my mail client needs to touch my Yahoo mailbox a brand new HTTP session is initiated. This has not appreciably affected performance in getting mail. This could result in Yahoo getting pissed off if my mail client's check mail frequency setting was set too low (thus increasing the frequency of fresh mail.yahoo.com website logins).
Side note: YPOPs locks up from time to time so I had to modify the startup script to run a custom watchdog script that periodically checks and if needed restarts the YPOPs daemon. If anyone wants that, please let me know.
So far, it's working well...
Stay tuned,
warelock
