Checking for updates (server's IP) ...

Postby satyr on September 17th, 2004, 1:13 pm

Hey, I have one simple, and not so important question.

Just curious, does anyone know - why, if I click on the "Check for Updates" option (right-clicking in YahooPOPs tray-icon), I see with my TCP/IP endpoints monitoring program (TCPview from Sysinternals), that it connects to this IP below:

bb4win.sourceforge.net

... instead of (as I would expect) YahooPOPs project's Sourceforge IP:

ypops.sourceforge.net

P.S., It check the version OK, and reports that there isn't any never, also yeah, I do use bb4win (Blackbox for Windows) as my default shell, but what has this to do with YahooPOPs update server ??

Maybe I am missing something, but TCPview does not show anything special when I click on
"Check for Updates"

I am using the .6 beta version though from Daniel Bryg.

Check if you are watching/monitoring only "Connected endpoints" (Ctr+U hot-key, or button on TCPview's Toolbar, on the right-side of Refresh button), I thing you certainly should see it connecting (at least I see it), because it must retrive information, so it must connect.

Try both "modes" when checking for update. But as I said, this is not important at all, I was just curious.

I do not know if I use beta too. Probably not, because it is also version 0.6, dated 23rd May 2004, but there is no notice, it's a beta release. Then it seems, it is "official" version.

Thanks for reply

NO, I still don't see anything. The beta version may not really look at this info, don't know.

Sorry cannot help.

I do not understand you exactly, what do you mean.

Do you mean TCPview beeing beta release (cause you say: "The beta version may not really look at this info"), but as far as I know, the verison 2.34 is "current" for a long time now, and this release is not beta ??

Anyways, thanks for your help, I know it is really not important

I am running 2.3.4 of TCPview, and when I click on Check for Update in Ypops it (Ypops) just pops up a window saying I have the latest version.
I don't see anything special happen in TCPview.

I am running the Experimental build #ltD040915a (by Daniel Bryg) version of Ypops though.
