HowTo change Preferred Content in Yahoo! Mail and Setup POP

Postby chrisretusn on March 14th, 2009, 9:10 pm

This is based on Yahoo! U.S.

Click on your name, on the drop down select Edit My Account. (If not Yahoo! U.S. you may have a My Account option listed instead.)

At the far right select Options, then Mail Options

Next select POP & Forwarding, then select "Set up or edit POP & Forwarding"

Make sure that Web & POP Access is selected. Also be sure to click the Save button to enable POP access.

That is it. Now you can click on [POP Settings] and get the specifics for setting up your e-mail client for POP3/SMTP

NOTE: There are other regions that also work with POP & Forwarding, try others if Yahoo! Asia does not work for you.

Also give it some time, the switch over to POP is not instantaneous. It could take several minutes, ever hours to be reflected in your account.

Thanks for the information, it worked for my 'spare' US Yahoo account.
Unfortunately my main account is a BT-Yahoo (UK) account and I can't find any equivalent settings page so I don't have the option of switching my preferred content to Asia. :(
There are of course plenty of options to upgrade to Mail Plus and pay for POP3 access

This does not work with newer Yahoo accounts.

WHY?? Why it doesn't work with newer yahoo accounts? After I switch to Yahoo! Asia the POP3 & FORWARDING option doesn't appear in my yahoo options menu. WHY!?!?

Chris:
THANKS!!!!!
I've been beating my head against my desktop trying to get AT&T and Yahoo to agree that my AT&T account should be able to access my Yahoo.com email through my Outlook POP3 email.
Your instructions were superb.

Thanks again,
phlarkincpa

I've looked through the thread here and it appears you may have put your "thank you" in the wrong topic.

Thought I'd revisit the 'Asia' option today. Have 4 accounts, mostly long time, so at this moment cannot speak to the supposedly glitch with 'newer' accounts.

Did the above process with 2 of my accounts, and seems to be working as before ... MOSTLY.
I say it that way because the option inside Ypops configuration of 'Save sent message to Yahoo server' does not work with this process....as it had previously with the old Yahoo-Ypops process.

That to me is important due to my 'off-n-on' stupid act of reformatting, and forgetting to back up OE6 message folders. At least under the old process, my sent messages via OE6 and Ypops were saved.

Guess I'll just have to keep trying.

If anyone figures out how to correct this, please post.
Thanks

OK ... just set up a new account in the India yahoo site ... and the POP3 option works perfectly.

Has anyone gotten this to work recently? My fiance uses Yahoo Mail & has an Android phone. I'd like to use Gmail for her email since it is the only mail service on an Android phone that will Push mail. I cannot get the POP & Forwarding settings no matter what I do though.
