can i use ypops to view another yahoo account in yahoo?

Postby centaurus on November 23rd, 2004, 5:40 pm

hi all,

let me explain. i want to add another yahoo account to my present yahoo mail account. basically, i have two yahoo accounts. one for personal and one for work. i know i can ask yahoo to rename my ID, but then i'd worry about not getting mail from my current ID. or is there nothing to worry about?

why am i doing this? because my present yahoo ID is sorta cheesy sounding and not very professional. i just want something simple, but do not want to risk not getting mail from my present account. worst case i can log in and out of each account to check mail indiviually, but i'm stubborn, i'd like to be able to check both yahoo accounts simultaneously.

SO...

when i went to add the other yahoo account in my current account, it says i need to upgrade to mail plus for pop3 accounts.

then i found your dany little program. i used the install aid titled:

yahoopops_mac_103104

seemed like everything loaded correctly. i added another yahoo account. but i get this message when i try to check my other yahoo account's mail in my present yahoo account:

Unfortunately, there was a problem:
Connect attempt timed out. localhost may be behind a firewall

the computer's firewall is off and i am using dial up, no router or hardware firewall.

here's how it looks in yahoo add an account feature:

Account Name: work

Mail Server: localhost
Only POP mail servers are supported at this time

Username: my username
Note: The username is different than your email address. Typically it is the text in your email address before the at sign (@).

Password: my password
Your password is not displayed for security purposes.

Deliver To: inbox

Options:

Hi centaurus,

I don't quite understand what you did to have an additional account (sub-account?) under you current yahoo account. Also, I am not sure if ypops supports sub-account.

Does this mean that you are doomed?

Not exactly. I am thinking that you can just simply apply another yahoo account, independent of your original yahoo account. Now, you have two yahoo accounts. You can instruct your mail client (say, Apple's mail.app) to retrieve these yahoo accounts; each of them is set up as ypops requires.

Of course, don't forget to install libxml via fink package management system. Please see the post on another thread.
