Fixed!

Postby littlepear on September 20th, 2004, 11:49 am

Works like a charm. Yep, just save http://daniel.bryg.net/download.php?file=YahooPops.exe into your YahooPops directory (to replace the existing YahooPops.exe).

Cheers, :)

I'm experiencing a similar problem. I've downloaded and installed the fixes that have been identified in this thread but they've not helped.

If I select "Download only unread emails" my emails are downloaded by my spam eliminator (MailWasher Pro, Version 3). When I process the wanted emails (after deleting the unwanted ones) Outlook Express is unable to download them because they have been "already read" by MailWasher.

Last week, everything worked fine. I was not having a problem with either Yahoopops or Mailwasher, or Outlook Express. But over the weekend, something changed, and I didn't do it! Truly.

Any further suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

XP SP2 patch install (how to do it works)

Postby Daedalus on September 20th, 2004, 4:32 pm

step 1, exits the Y!pops
2 copy the new .exe and the new .dll downloaded from the bryg site to the same install directory of the y!pops (ussualy c:\program file\yahoopops\)
3 disable the Window's system restore feature, to do it, just click on the "My PC" icon on the start panel, then select "properties", then select the "System Restore Tab", then CHECK the disable system restore option, finally click on accept
4 start y!pops manually following the programs menu (as you do with any program)
5 when the security center prompt for allowing you to lets the app to run, be careful to check the option "don't ask again" before to allow the y!pops to run.
6 test the y!pops with your favorite e-mail client.
7 reboot and test again (just remember to self send an e-mail to have anything to download.

If these down't work, post your experience, this will help to found a solution (if the y!pops community don't know your throubles you will never got help)...

Again, sorry by my poor english ...
Daedalus

Is anyone still having trouble?

After you download the daniel.bryg’s modified YahooPOPs.exe file, you may find that the settings need to be readjusted for it to work properly, again. Here are the settings I’m using.

In Advanced Preferences > Security, choose Secure Transmission using MD5.
In Advanced Preferences > Network, choose 127.0.0.1 and POP3 Port 110
In Miscellaneous, check Enable UIDL support, check Ignore Exact Email Size, and check Apply Limit to Message List. (Whatever they are, but they work.)

daniel.bryg’s version has the exact same menu items that the official 0.6 version has.

You can right click on the YahooPOPs! icon in your toolbar, and choose “About YahooPOPs!” It will report that the daniel.bryg version is Version 0.6, and there is also a note that says it’s an “experimental build.” That will confirm that replacing the old .exe file with the new one was successful.

My YahooPOPs was fixed by replacing the old .exe file with daniel.bryg’s. I did not find it necessary to download a new .dll file. And since it ain’t broke anymore, I’m not going to fix it further.

Extra stuff:

1) I'm only going to believe that Ladybeldin is a blonde when she sends us a link to her photograph.

2) I hope FBtje understands that the YP! programmers are doing a real good job, especially considering that any updates performed on YP! are
volunteer efforts. Granted, new “official” YP! updates would become available faster if yahoo would inform us before they make changes to their yahoo-mail webpage, but we can’t expect them to be that cooperative...

3) Daedalus, your English is fine. If anyone is having trouble following your directions, we should mention that they are specifically for Windows XP. You also said, "... If these [directions] don't work, post your experience, this will help to find a solution (if the y!pops community don't know your troubles you will never got help)..." That's good advice; help is here. Try to provide enough information so the smart guys (and gals) can troubleshoot your problem, such as what’s your operating system, etc.

IV) Bobson, This guy has some comments about Mailwasher -- http://www.dansdata.com/mailwasher.htm

However, that probably has nothing to do with your problem. Instead, each email has a UIDL, a number identifier. Maybe you can tell Mailwasher not to check for UIDL numbers? Normally, you don't want to download messages that were already downloaded, but you should be able to turn off that function, in my opinion. (I find that UIDL has to be turned On in YahooPOPs! for YahooPOPs! to work.)

E) Tlies -- Yes, someone had success reverting to version 5, but we're also having luck using modified Version 6 from the daniel.bryg website. Might as well.

If you're having trouble replacing your old yahoopops.exe file with the one downloaded from daniel.bryg, then let us know how far you were able to go in the procedure, where you got stuck, and what happened. Also, what operating system are you using.

Here are a couple of ideas. When you download the file, you can save it directly "on top of" the old file, so the old one will be replaced. Start by finding the old file, by searching your hard drive ("Find" or "Search," etc.) for "yahoopops.exe" to find the old file. Then, when you're ready to start the download, you can direct Windows to download the new file to the same folder where the old file is located, which will cause the incoming new file to overwrite [replace] the old one. But first, Windows will ask you, "Do you really want to overwrite the old file?" Tell it "Yeh, man." That is the fastest, easiest method.

This might come up in conversation: In Windows 98, if you try to move an executable (.exe) file (such as yahoopops.exe) in Windows Explorer from one folder to another by dragging-and-dropping with the mouse, only a shortcut will be created in the new location, and the original file won’t be moved. The shortcut will point to the executable in the old location. I don’t know what the philosophy is behind that, and it only happens with executables. However, if you really want to move an .exe file instead of just creating a shortcut, the work-around is easy. Instead of trying to drag it, right click on the executable, and select “Cut.” Then right-click on the folder that you want to move the .exe to, and select “Paste.” Windows will tell you, “There’s already a file with that name in this folder. Are you sure that you want to overwrite the old file?” Tell it Yes.

It takes forever to describe. But after you’ve downloaded a couple of files or moved a couple of .exe files around, it becomes second nature. I wish you a broadband connection, because learning to deal with downloads is more tedious with a telephone connection.

Thanks for downloading,
-Neil-

Important details on how to download the new exe file

Postby unruhmissions on September 21st, 2004, 10:05 am

I followed everyone's advice and downloaded the file from Daniel Bryg's site and now my YPops is working great. I thought I would give some details on how I finally got it to work in case others are having the same problem. First, you need to make sure that YPops is not running in the background when you download the file. Hit CTRL+ALT+DEL and go to Processes. Look for YahooPOPs.exe. When you find it, click End Process. Now you need to find out where YahooPOPs.exe is located on your computer. Go to the start menu, click on Search, For Files or Folders... in the search box, type "yahoopops.exe". Write down where it is saved so you can find this folder when you download the new exe file. Now, go to the site, http://daniel.bryg.net/yahoopops.php. When you get here, click on "experimental build #ltd0915a" to download it. It will ask you if you want to run or save, you need to choose save. When you download the file, you can save it directly "on top of" the old file, so the old one will be replaced. Now you can direct Windows to download the new file to the same folder where the old file is located, which will cause the incoming new file to overwrite [replace] the old one. But first, Windows will ask you, "Do you really want to overwrite the old file?" Tell it "Yes". That is the fastest, easiest method. Now when you go to programs and run YPops, your olds e-mails should be deleted from webmail when you are done downloading. Hope this will help those of you that were still having problems.

All I can say is, I had the delete problem, and Daniel's beta fixed me up.
Make sure you got the beta installed correctly by right clicking on the Ypops icon in the tray and left click on ABOUT.
It should say
Experimental build #ltd040915a by Daniel Bryg
on the second line.

If it does not have that, you have not overlaid the original version.
You must kill the currently running Ypops before you can lay the new down. There is a post above that tells how to do that.
If all else fails check out the other project in sourceforge called
freepops
freepops.sourceforge.net

More feedback: I too had the problem with Yahoo mails not being deleted on the Yahoo server. The suggested update has fixed the problem. Curiously, eprompter has not had any problem whatsoever.

Have it all nicely installed as per suggestions..I'm running the beta install, but I'm still getting duel emails on yahoo..really bites too..hard to keep from bouncing in my groups when I max out yahoo every day in my inbox due to the doubles...I've ran norton to make sure I have no viruses or any of that..just can't seem to figure this out..if it were just me I would say it was something I was doing wrong, but it seems it's not..at least for now my ypops is downloading and removing them all from the server on yahoo, it's just the doubles that are driving me totally insane..and trust me it's not taking much to do that anymore..lol..so any help would be greatly appreciated from anyone..thanks so much!

Please post your yahoopops.log file in advanced mode (make sure your settings show).
Make sure it shows a mail checking session.
This may help us diagnose the problem.

Hi Ladybeldin.

Are you having any luck? Or still deleting emails manually on the web?

If you're still having trouble, then set your YahooPOPs! Log to "Advanced."

Find it here: Advanced Preferences > Activity Log > Logging Level > Advanced Logs

We may need that for further troubleshooting.

Also, did you do "About YahooPOPs!..." to confirm that you're really running the new, experimental version?
